How to Apply

Surface Preparation
When used with Tack Coat: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from loose material. Wire brushing and sweeping should suffice, Bio-D Floor Degreaser and Cleaner can be used to remove grease and oil. Prepare at least 100mm at the base of the wall and 100mm at the floor edge to accommodate the skirting.
Priming

Watco Tack Coat should be applied at least 80mm up the base of the wall from the edge of the floor, where the cove skirting is to be applied. The coving mortar should be applied to the Tack Coat while it is still tacky.

Mixing
A 22lb pack contains aggregate pre-blended with resin and a tin of curing agent. It is recommended that the whole pack is mixed at once. (Please note that once mixed, the product is usable for up to one hour). Do not mix the product inside the bucket. Put on protective gloves. Tip the aggregate into a mixing tray or a board. Shake the tin of curing agent thoroughly. Form the aggregate into a mound, leaving a small hole in the middle.

Empty the tin of curing agent into the hole, ensuring the contents are completely drained. Carefully mix the aggregate with the curing agent using a trowel until a smooth, grey mortar is obtained. The more thorough the mixing, the ‘wetter’, smoother and more manageable the mix becomes. Alternatively, you may find it easier to knead the mixture by hand, still wearing gloves. It is important to mix thoroughly, until you achieve a consistent grey color.

Application
Trowel the mortar firmly over the Tack Coat Primer. Use a coving trowel to achieve the cove radius. Moisten a rag with mineral spirit and frequently wipe the blade. This helps to achieve a good finish. The product can be feather edged, at the top and base of the coved skirting. If laying over an expansion joint, saw cut through the cured mortar, following the joint, to prevent random cracking.
