Product Detail

Containment Sealer is a two-component glass flake reinforced epoxy resin designed to protect secondary containment areas and storage tanks in the event of spillage. This chemical spill containment sealer will protect against spillages of water, oil, diesel and a range of chemicals. Secondary containment coatings can be used to fill cracks between the containment wall and floor, providing a heavy duty chemical resistant coating.

Features and Benefits of Containment Sealer:

  • Unique flexible formulation protects & reinforces containment areas & storage tanks
  • Glass reinforced formula for tough sealing & waterproofing
  • Can be applied to damp surfaces
  • Used for both interior & exterior applications
  • Suitable for concrete, brick, concrete block, metal & asphalt
  • Excellent resistance to gasoline, diesel, acids, alkalis & solvents (see datasheet)
  • Covers approximately 150 sq. ft. per kit. Once coat covers most surfaces
  • Ready for use in 16 to 24 hours in 60 to 70°F
  • Apply using a paint brush or roller

Quick Tip: You can use reinforcing fabric when additional reinforcement is required over cracks and joints. It will waterproof and strengthen vulnerable joints & help prevent the containment area from developing leaks. Apply along the joint where the wall meets the floor, bedding into a wet coating of the Containment Sealer.

Warning: Cancer and Reproductive harm image

Specifications

Curing Time (Hours): 15 Minutes in 70°F
Appearance: Thick, black flexible coating
Usage Interior/Exterior: Interior & Exterior
Suitable for: Brick, concrete and concrete block
Coverage: Approximately 150 sq. ft. per kit with one coat
Pot Life: Approximately 30 min. in 70°F
Curing Time (Hours): 16 to 24 hr. in 60 to 70°F dry to touch, full cure 7 days

How to Apply

Surface Preparation
Ensure surfaces are clean, sound and free of contaminants. Large cracks in the surface should be repaired prior to application of Containment Sealer. Remove grease and oil using a solvent free cleaner/degreaser. Containment Sealer can be applied to damp surfaces, although for more permanent installations we recommend that the surface is as dry as possible. Containment Sealer can be applied to painted surfaces but all loose or defective paint must be removed first. Remove loose rust from metal (it is not necessary to remove all well bonded rust).

Mixing
Please store in a warm room (60-85°F) for at least 8 hours prior to use. The product can become thick and difficult to apply if allowed to become cold. Combine base and activator and mix thoroughly using a paint paddle or spatula to scrape all material from the inside of the containers. Partial mixing is not recommended. Pot life is approximately 30 minutes at 70°F. Higher ambient temperature will shorten pot life.

Application
Apply by brush, working well into the substrate. The product can be brushed thickly over hairline cracks and joints. One coat is generally sufficient to produce a watertight seal. A second coat may be required on very porous surfaces or to produce a continuous film over rough surfaces.

Curing Time
The product will be dry to the touch and can be recoated in 16-24 hours. Full cure is achieved over 7 days at an ambient temperature of 60-70°F. Lower temperatures will extend the curing times. Do not apply at temperatures below 50°F.

Coverage
Approximately 150 sq. ft. per kit.
